Limited Edition Robert Davidson Print Silk Mask, Thunderbird
Limited Edition Robert Davidson Print Silk Mask, Thunderbird
Hiilang.nga Xidid | Hiilang | Thunderbird
This is a vintage Robert Davidson design (1970), in the classic Haida artform. In the Haida worldview, Thunderbird produces thunder and lightning. Here, Thunderbird is transformed into the traditional nature-based colours of a naxiin robe (hemlock/iron-black, wolf moss-yellow, indigo-wolf moss blue-green, and mountain goat-white). Traditional Thunderbird symbolizes strength, peace, hope, optimism, heritage, continuity, elegance, and, courage to own and express your voice and power.
The geometric zig-zag pattern is taken from Terri-Lynn's weaving. This traditional pattern is called Shadow of the Tree. It is lying supine, hugging the earth, supporting and reflecting the colours of Traditional Thunderbird.
A unique and handcrafted mask, this limited edition series of masks are perfect for special occasions, and as a gift or keepsake. Produced entirely in Canada, the masks are comprised of three layers: the outer printed layer is 100% silk, and the two interior layers are made of 100% cotton and a cotton / lycra blend. Printed in Ontario, the masks sewn by master seamstress Deborah Basterfield in Vancouver, Each mask includes a wire-nose piece, and straps that tie around the head.. They are not medical grade, but a very similar build was made by the seamstress for masks that were distributed to front-line health care workers at the beginning of the COVID crisis (in spring 2020).
Masks are available in pleated style (7. 5” X 4.25” size medium) and cup style (8.5” X 5.25” size large). Measurements are approximate; because the masks are handmade, sizes will vary slightly.
PLEASE NOTE: Face masks are non-returnable for reasons of health and safety.
